Faster Internet

Exciting news, NBN is getting connected at my location.
This means less lag because I'd be able to offer better upload speed, vs 2x ADSL+2 Annex M connections.

Ordered on the 3/4/17, and today got told should be connected on the 12/4/17.

Will update everyone when I have more information/it's connected. And post my connection speed here.

Re: Faster Internet

woo nice new modem/router, picked up today.

Going to try running the servers on this, if it isn't powerful enough, will turn the modem into bridge mode and connect it to a pfSense router (aka more powerful router, if needed).
Anyways i'm excited. :lai19:

Re: Faster Internet

The internet connection is scheduled to be swapped over from ADSL+2 to VDSL today.

I have set my modem settings to VDSL only. Side effect due to network route settings, I cannot route minecraft traffic through the connection yet. (I do not want to get the NBN port locked, by having it in ADSL+2 Mode)

I did attempt to set up a proxy server to temporary proxy the traffic through the second ADSL+2 line, but the bungeecord server is trying to route the player authorisation through the connection that is offline. So that idea failed. (Worked for the webserver though)

If I had more time (need to sleep), could fix it. But best to just wait.

When the connection comes back online, im not sure if the IP will change or not. Have to wait and see.

I expect it to be back online if everything goes to plan, later today.

Re: Faster Internet

Woohooo.....

How's the servers part of the hardware - do you need more memory - getting a few spare sticks around - I think they are ECC server type, but cannot remember which type DDR2 or DDR3. What do you have in the servers?

Re: Faster Internet

Thank you bunny, but should be okay hardware wise (for now).
---

I did notice around 8pm? Internet traffic stopped flowing (I think), I will be keeping a eye on it/work out any issues hopfully.
---

Available Hardware:
Image

Liquidsnake:
CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K @ 4.0GHz, 8 cores/with HyperThreading (Watercooled)
RAM: 32GB DDR3 1600MHz (Motherboard/chipset Max, I think) (Non-ECC)
Storage: ASUS RAIDR Express 240GB PCI-E SSD + 1TB SATA HDD + another 1TB SATA HDD for non minecraft activitys.

Solidsnake:
CPU: Intel Core i5-6600K @ 3.50GHz, 4 cores
RAM: 24GB DDR4, (Do have another 8gb stick, just need a different CPU cooler to fit) (Non-ECC)
Storage: 2x 136GB SAS HDD (in Raid 1) + 256GB Samsung SSD

Grayfox:
CPU: Intel Atom 230 @ 1.60 GHz, 2 cores
RAM: 2GB (Non-ECC)
Storage: 1TB SATA HDD

----
Currently everything is running on Liquidsnake, I do have Solidsnake as a spare.

Previously was running Both Liquidsnake and Solidsnake and had the Virtual Machines/Containers split evenly between both of them. But due to cost, I had to temporary shut down Solidsnake and Grayfox to save power (Money) due to needed to pay bills and needed to save more money.

Grayfox is a lower power machine but was using it as a webserver for abit/As a cluster member too (Proxmox recommends 3 servers running, if you join them together, as best practices)
---

Overviewer Render Server (Sniperwolf):
Make: IBM x3650 Type 7979
CPUs: 2x Intel Xeon E5420 @ 2GHz Each, 8 Cores Combined (Benchmark results; About i5 2500k equivalent)
RAM: 8GB DDR2 (ECC)
HDD: 3x 136GB SAS HDD
---

If the Modem/router is not powerful enough (Consumer Quality) Will turn the modem into a dumb bridge and connect it to a pfSense router, what would be able to handle all the traffic easy.
----

Over this weekend (nighttime) will be looking over the network & cabling, and also do some minecraft administration :mine-D:
---

Offtopic: If anyone in adelaide wants a AMD Duel Core Machine/s, can sell (pickup) cheap since got two I'm not using. Would be okay for basic tasks/light gaming.

Also have 2x DrayTek Vigor120 ADSL+2 modems.

Personal Message me for more information.
